The Second Book of Ethiopian Maccabees,
written in Geʽez, extends the first book’s
themes of struggle and faith, describing an
ahistorical figure named Maccabeus and
his conversion (distinct from the historical
figures of the 2nd century BC). It continues
the narrative of resistance and devotion in
the face of adversity. Estimated to date
from the high medieval period (post-14th
century), it enriches the Ethiopian
Orthodox canon with its unique
perspective.
